Steamboat was founded with an entrepreneurial spirit and unique opportunities in both commercial and residential real estate are plentiful.  Steamboat has doubled in population over the past 2 decades which demonstrates a welcoming spirit.  A renaissance of sorts has taken place in downtown Steamboat over the past several years. This includes 6 newly constructed mixed-use developments, a newly constructed library, brand new Community Center and a total renovation of the Old Town Hot Springs recreation facility.

The Yampa Valley Regional Airport offers year-round air service and is currently completing a multi-million dollar renovation.  The YVRA is an integral part of connecting Steamboat to the rest of the country which makes relocating to Northwest Colorado easier now than ever.

Tourism accounts for 30-40% of sales tax revenue and the largest employer in the Yampa Valley is the Steamboat Ski & Resort Corporation with nearly 1,800 winter employees.  In comparison to that, there are over 1,700 businesses here with less than 9 employees.  According to a 2005 survey there were 700 location-neutral businesses and the number continues to rise annually.
