The Routt County School District RE-2 serves the community with two elementary schools (K-5), one middle school (6-8), one charter school (K-8) and one high school (9-12). The Colorado Department of Education has consistently ranked Steamboat area schools in the top tier of academic excellence over the years. In fact, Soda Creek Elementary School recently received a “high” rating for overall performance and Strawberry Park Elementary, Steamboat Springs Middle School and Steamboat Springs High School received ratings of “excellent.”
Student to teacher ratios hover around 20:1 at the elementary school level and 25:1 at the high school level. The K-12 enrollment for the 2009/10 school year was 2,152 students and the average spending per student was $10, 237.
In addition to the wonderful primary school options, Steamboat Springs is also home to the Alpine Campus of Colorado Mountain College. CMC offers a 4-year Education degree, two-year associate of arts degrees as well as providing community education and outreach. Steamboat high school students have the opportunity to partake in concurrent enrollment at CMC which allows students to earn college transferable credits similar to Advanced Placement.
Overall, the average Steamboat Springs CSAP scores rank above the state average in almost every level of reading, writing and arithmetic. We are very proud of our area schools and enjoy watching our young students learn and grow in this wonderfully supportive environment.
